All 2013 or newer diesel powered vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over 14,000 pounds that operate in California are subject to semiannual testing(Annual testing for RV's). Affected vehicles include hybrid trucks and buses, commercial vehicles, privately-owned vehicles, recreational vehicles, government vehicles, and vehicles registered outside of California.

UPDATE

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is revising the effective date California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2196.2 within the Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance Regulation. The effective date for section 2196.2 will now be October 1, 2024..

Submit passing test within 90 days of your registration due date. Then 6 months later.

Example - A March 31st submission deadline would mean a September 30th deadline

Penalties can vary. Violations can result in a citation or a blocked vehicle DMV registration. You will need to provide proof of correction before a citation could be cleared.
